Umzimkulu Marina Number One: mingling with the Otters

Umzimkulu Marina Number One: mingling with the Otters: We have a family of delightfully cheeky otters thriving across the river. They are always around when the fishing is good. And sometimes come out in the sunlight (they are mainly nocturnal). There is a recent pair of teenagers around, that have been playing around cheerfully together, right in front of the lodge.

Unit Number One is our most compact and has been fitted out with a unique twin double bed arrangement. It’s great for two friends, a small family or a couple. Both upstairs and down sport views over and into the Umtentweni Conservancy. Fish eagles will rouse you in the morning, all sorts of other birds visit all day long and if you are lucky enough you might get to spot some more wildlife! Like the otters, turtles and even sharks that swim the salty estuary waters right out front of the lodge. Swimming not advised but many people jump right in!

Our units are fully equipped for self-catering, each with a braai area out the front. They are serviced if you require them to be.

Overlooking the Umzimkulu River feels right deep in nature, living right on the water…you can spend your time relaxing on the lush lawn reading a book, or fishing.

Fishing with bait or lures produces spectacular catches of rock salmon (aka river snapper), Garrick, kob, perch and all sorts. Fishing tackle is available on request. We have boats for both the river and for going out to sea. We can take you deep-sea out for marlin, in the estuary for rockies or garrick from the beach at the Sandspit, at the river mouth.
